- Hallo,
-
- We're evaluating Xwindemo. I have a copy running on an HP-Vectra 486/50
- with an HP ultra-VGA board at 1024x768x16c. I have W3.1+Trumpet Winsock
- + PCSA4.0 running along.
-
- Xwindemo is running quite well, EXCEPT that it will fail to cache/handle
- small pixmaps/bitmaps, or whatever. The most frequent nuisance is using
- a CAD package that has iconic palettes: they come out TRANSPARENT. A quick
- way to reproduce this is doing an xsetroot of a small bitmap. I usually get
- blank backdrops or random garbage in the root X window. top-level (shell)
- window icons appear OK, though, and so do custom cursors, so far.
-
- Has anybody else experienced this? May it be due to lack of memory on
- my HP gfx board?
-
- Unfortunately, I can't mount trumpet+xwindemo on other PCs at this moment,
- so no, I haven't tried another set-up.
-
- Thanks for any help.

- Subject: Trmptel problem again
-
- I recently posted about trmptel not accepting characters on the login/password
- prompt. I've checked it out more carefully, and it turns out that the problem
- is specifically ASCII characters 37-40. Rather than give the normal %, &, ',
- and (, trmptel sends ^[[A, ^[[C, ^[[D, and ^[[B, respectively (I believe). Is
- there a way to get around this?

- Subject: Looking for News reader and POP e_mail client code
-
- Hello,
- Can anyone help me out, I am looking for source code for an NNTP news
- reader and a POP e-mail client for a PC running winsock. I know that there
- are things like Eudora and WinVN, etc. available but I really need source code
- as I wish to write my own clients that have functionality that is not found in
- any of the other clients.
- Any advice/code/FTP sites/etc. appreciated.

- FTP to 128.159.4.20 (sorry, I threw away the site name) and look in the directory

- Subject: Experimental weekend FTP server FAILED AGAIN!
-
- To all you out there who tried out my little ftp server and were successful, I
- hope you found something you liked. To those of you who couldn't get in, sorry.
- My experiment failed again this weekend. So, the bottom line at this point is:
-
- Don't use NetManage's CHAMELEON 4.0 FTP Server for anything except
- VERY MINOR ftp traffic. The software just can't handle it.
-
- If you ever want to set up an ftp server on your PC using Windows, Chameleon is
- not the right package. (Sorry NetManage, but it's the truth!) The weekend
- prior to this one, the server itself just stopped accepting logons for no
- apparent reason. This past weekend there was a General Protection-style error--not
- actually a GP Fault, but the same kind of message box that required me to close
- the application. That meant I couldn't save the log file with all the names,
- addresses, and successful downloads. I was curious to see what people were
- interested in.
-
- For those of you who may have gotten on my machine, had a chance to see what was
- there, but couldn't download it, send me a message and I'll probably let you
- back in to pick up what you missed. Otherwise, until I can get some serious
- response from NetManage, I consider the experiment a failure, and the server
- won't be opened up again.
-
- Thanks to all who helped me out.

- FTP Software, Inc. is a commercial software vendor. The product being referred

- If you use version 1 B Beta#2 this problem will be eliminated. However, this
- is a prerelease version and seems to have some glitches.
